We Can Make a Difference! Yes! We Can!!
"If you're between the ages of 18 and 24 and you want to scare the hell out of the people who run the country, do the unexpected, take 20 minutes out of your day and do what young people the world over are dying to do: Vote!" - Rick Mercer

I know many people between this age group don't vote due to two main reasons which are how politicians don't cater to the younger generations but to the older generations as well as saying how young people feel that individually their vote doesn't really make a difference.

But it's a vicious cycle if you think about it. The less young people turn out to vote, the less effort politicians will naturally make to cater to them. They cater to the older people because the 65 to 74 years old demographic tends to register the highest voter turnout of any age group. So politicians have said that they plan to create more pension plans for the elderly... Us students? TAX TUITION INCREASE!!

Also, maybe our votes as the younger generations do not mean much individually, but concerning how there are at least 3 million strong of us across the country, who are eligible to vote, we could make a tremendous difference if we went out en masse on election day!

I mean considering how practically ALL the Arashi fans have watched the HnA Mannequin Five SP and most probably voted in the most recent one (I know I did... TWICE!). Think how much of a difference us INTERNATIONAL fans made to the outcome of that SP!!

Individually, the votes don't make a difference, but once you pool all those votes together, it made a BIG difference. Think about it, if those 8 800 people didn't vote for Sho at all, he would have ended up with ZERO votes!!

As such, I think it's a privilege that we get to have the choice of whether or not we want to vote and the choice on who we want to vote for. Many people around the world are dying to vote... Literally... DYING to vote. So why shouldn't we vote as well?!

So to all those who are in Canada and at least the age of majority, GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUMS AND GO VOTE ON MAY SECOND!! If you can't make it to the election day voting, attend the pre-voting that's in the last few days in April!!

*Inserts "Troublemaker" here* ARE YOU READY?! ~ DO IT!! DO IT!! ~ SWEET! SWEET! ~

That's right, I'm using Arashi for references to urge us young whipper snappers to go vote and make the difference to see how this election will turn out!

With that off my chest, I shall continue henceforth to drown myself in textbooks to prepare for my last two remaining final exams...

OH GAWD! I AGREE!! I wish I could vote for Chretien like my parents did!!

Green is still in the election, but they wouldn't let her in during the political debates... I suspect the men didn't want a woman in during the debates because she would have creamed them all.

To each their own ne? Those who I've talked to in school are voting for either NDP, Green, or Liberal.

I hope PQ NEVER win! They want to extend bill 101 into post secondary schools now. My only reaction was: Haven't you had enough?! Bill 101 already effects elementary and high school and these are MANDATORY! But once you finish high school, you should have the choice on choosing where you want to go!!

I mean, there are already so many English schools closing down because there isn't enough enrollment, and when there is, THERE'S TOO MANY STUDENTS CRAMMED IN A CLASSROOM!

He was like neo-Trudeau. Had he still be in office, I'm sure there would no elections in the first place.

Oh, so it was just the debates. Okay. I'm going to read more into the other parties, but my vote is veering towards Green.

I don't think Harper's a bad PM; he's done some good. And shows like RMR, Daily Report, and CP are paid to make fun of politics--but at the same time they give insight to what they're doing. Sure enough, Canada seems to be better off with their politics than US. People should really give Obama a chance. The man was elected when everything was in turmoil, and Bush just left him with such a huge mess that it's going to take time to clean up. Not his fault that some people are stupid and ignorant on what the president has on his plate. He's doing the best he can in a disaster situation.

That is so true. I fear for my younger cousins because if they decide to pursue their studies in English, their parents are going to have to fish big bucks out their wallets in order to pay for their tuition. But this is PQ--they aren't going to win. There's too many English-speaking people in Quebec. It's bad enough that we have a language barrier at stores and restaurants, and it's no fair to immigrants who are still learning English. There's also the fact that if PQ were to win, they'll separate QC from Canada. Good luck in maintaining that, dudes.

YES! He would have made sure that this crap wouldn't be happening and he doesn't need no secret service at all! If someone throws another pie at him, he'll go and personally knock out the guy. But yeah, we need cooler leaders.

I agree with Obama, poor guy has so many dreams but he's met with so much resistance. Like the free health care. I think it's a wonderful step for those who can't afford it at all, but are able to have some health care. But Americans are capitalists and don't want to do charity work to help those in need.

I hope PQ NEVER wins. All the crap that they put us through with the French... GAH. They want to separate from Canada but still retain the currency. That's like a kid leaving home and still wanting to get an allowance. I mean, honestly! Quebec is NOT a NATION or a COUNTRY! It's a bloody province that thinks it's better because we have another language which is French.

I was discussing with my mom about Obama: if he were a Canadian politician running in the elections, he would surely win. His free health care plan is brilliant. Capitalism will be the death of the States. I mean, it makes perfect sense; if people are able to gain free health care, then they can get back to work without worrying about medical bills and prescription drugs. With that done, they can make more money. It's a win-win situation. It should be like Canada; the hospitals are payed through our taxes, and since the States has a bigger population than Canada, hospitals will gain more money.

That is so true. They'll never win. Their methods are mediocre and ill-thought of. They think that separating from Canada will make them better than all the others because Quebec was discovered first and whatnot. There's no justification to their methods.

But I think the Americans don't like the idea of free HC because they look at us and see the problems that we have. I mean, the long lineups, the lack of doctors and nurses since they all go to the States to make more money there than they could here.

Not only that, but political leaders (even here) aren't keen on spending loads of money for the public sector which contains the HC.

During the debates, there was a question about the HC and if Canada can keep continuing to afford it even with a 6% increase per year since the HC plan with the provinces is finishing in 2014 and there has been no move about renewing it. The answers were all ambiguous during the debates.

I dunno, I always felt ashamed (?) that only Quebec gets it on political party because we're so anal that we think we're cooler than the rest of Canada. When I watched the debates it was like: Enough already with Quebec!! You're like a child crying for attention because your sibling don't know what you're babbling about!!
suu9 on April 20th, 2011 01:00 am (UTC)
Crap--didn't see the debates, so learning about the HC issue is bad news. I hope it gets renewed. Our shortage of doctors and nurses is a major problem, in which there needs to be a party (I think it's Liberal or NPD) that have addressed the issue about health care. Private clinics are becoming more popular, but those places depend on people's money, and the more serious your situation is, the more you have to spend in order to get help. I'm thinking that Communism is better than democracy. Look at Cuba--their health care system is so much better than Canada and the States combined...and it's free!

Well, I know were I won't be placing my vote. PQ doesn't even deserve to run. They have no idea what's good for the province--not to mention that Quebec in itself is one of the worst provinces throughout the entire country. The only thing that makes up for Quebec's blunders is Montreal. Had Montreal been apart of Ontario, we'd be good. Quebec can take a giant hacksaw and separate itself when we're done moving our city.
corlee1289: HanaDan F Wedding Kiss 02 ♥corlee1289 on April 20th, 2011 01:12 am (UTC)
I know for a fact that NDP's platform is for more doctors and nurses because we have such a bad shortage of them here since they all go to the States. But now that the States also has free HC, where will the doctors and nurses go now?

COMMUNISM IS BAD! I don't care, I understand the ideology behind it and how it's like a Utopia dream, but in reality, it's worse in the end.

I agree with Montreal moving to Canada. Afterwards, I don't give a damn. I mean, PQ always says "Quebec this and Quebec that and how come we didn't get the 2.2 million dollars for harmonizing with Canada since 1997?" I mean, let it go! It's been 14 years. If they didn't give it to you then, they won't give it to you now!
suu9 on April 20th, 2011 01:18 am (UTC)
It's going to be a tough decision to make. But until Canada fixes the shortage problem, then all the doctors and nurses will be up in the air.

True. But I think it's better than Capitalism. However, money makes the world go 'round. As long as we don't turn into a Fascist country, I'll be happy.

Who's ever going to give a province 2.2 million dollars?! Seriously--if Quebec got it, the money would be gone in an instant, and in all the wrong places.
corlee1289: 嵐はコーヒーを飲みますよ~!corlee1289 on April 20th, 2011 01:28 am (UTC)
Doctors and nurses will be up in the air?! In the Tardis?! O__O

*nods* As long as it's not fascist, it's an all good country <3

Yeah, 2.2 million dollars and PQ leader keeps asking why the government doesn't give it to Quebec since it was promised to them in 1997... *sighs* Quebec is like a spoiled child that needs to be disciplined by getting a time out of sorts.

There was also talk about the Champlain bridge and what the leader's will do about it. Conservative said they'll fix it, Liberals said they'll build a new one, I say they have it in their agenda until the thing collapses...
suu9 on April 20th, 2011 01:32 am (UTC)
Don't know if there's enough room in the Tardis. I miss meeting up at Tessa's and watching Doctor Who. In September, we'll all be in school, and there'll be no time to meet up. :'C

Exactly. Until the thing actually collapses, it won't get fixed. They should take into account the death toll when that happens.
corlee1289: Kaibutsu-kun Jun Elf Wink *dies*corlee1289 on April 20th, 2011 01:39 am (UTC)
What are you talking about?! Of course there's room in the Tardis! It's bigger on the inside!!

Yeah, come September, we'll all be screwed over in school... YAY!

I honestly hope that it won't take people to die first before they actually do SOMETHING about that death trap bridge.
suu9 on April 20th, 2011 01:45 am (UTC)
Don't know if the Doctor would want a crowded Tardis, just sayin'.

Hmmm. Aside from AN and Tessa's birthday, we need to meet. There's always my work's beach party, but I'm not attending this year. Water parks with work aren't as fun when attending alone with friends and family.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Really? I was under the impression that he liked company... And they'll be doctors as well!!

I'm sure there will be many other opportunities to meet up!!

I mean, there's the PotC movie that will be released on May 20th as well as the last installment of HP being released sometime during the summer as well~

I guess--I need to watch more episodes. Thankfully the Space Channel plays them everyday at 11:00AM and 8:00PM Monday to Thursday.

I was kind of hesitant of going to watch the fourth movie, but perhaps if there's more Barbossa, then I'll consider it. As long as Elizabeth and Will don't make an appearance...pirates and romance don't mix well and give me a stomach ache.

I am looking forward to the last Harry Potter film--though I think I'm going to cringe at the epilogue.
