*mourning over the loss of Megaupload*
I don't know what I'm feeling right now... I honestly don't... downarrow

I had personal files backed up on MU since I no longer had room on my computer or on my HDD, so I uploaded them on MU... secrethimitsu

So in a sense, I'm feeling many emotions coursing through me right now... NG

SOPA and PIPA haven't even passed yet and the FBI have taken MU down heartbreak

This does not bode well to the Arashi fandom or any fandom for that reason. Without the internet, I wouldn't be buying or supporting many of the artists that I currently am now BECAUSE of the internet exclamation1

Hopefully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! lightbulb

The Internet is to big for it to be taken down by a single country. A lot of people are United for the good cause. This bill won't pass, not now, not ever.

I agree as well, the internet wouldn't be taken down so easily. I read on Twitter that we're in The Year of Cyber War and we're rising up to join the fight.

It would have probably been easier for them if the internet wasn't so widely used where many people would be aware of what's going on. But thankfully it isn't and in our current modern age, information travels very quickly.

Without the internet, would we even know about our sparkly awesome rainbow five?

Why does the government have to get involve with the people who *rule* the web? Where would I be now if I hadn't watched HYD online then got into Arashi? Where? Truth be told, Most of the American Artist make it because of the Internet & I saw an American Artist who is against SOPA.

I'm actually very happy that there are anonymous members who are striking back hard after MU was forcefully taken down by the FBI and several others who are joining in on this battle~

I was also Jun baited into the fandom because of HYD. I wonder if Johnny will protest when he sees the sales plummet drastically from the lack of international fans because of those two bills.

But yes, many American artists become famous through the internet and without it, they wouldn't be where they are now...

Same here! If I hadn't been shown the links to AnS on YT by my friend, I wouldn't be here for Arashi, and I wouldn't be working so hard to support Jun and Arashi. If it wasn't for Arashi, I wouldn't have learnt so many things T^T

I know right?! Where would we be without the internet to show us how loveable Arashi was? Not only that, but Arashi got so many INTERNATIONAL votes because of the internet and mediums such as MU/MF to faciliate them into the fandom. Even Arashi was genuinely surprised that there were so many oversea votes to the point where members were banking on those votes when they decided their M5 outfits!

There's also the many artists that were introduced to me through Arashi that I would have never been interested in before or the other actors/actresses that they do dramas with~!

I would never have bothered watching anything Japanese if it wasn't for the wonders of the Internet. I don't refute the fact that downloading is illegal, but one cannot deny that free downloads/streams actually help in publicity of an artist, ie. free promotion!

Also, without all these downloads that I depend on, I would never have achieved my level of understanding of Japanese! It was through Arashi that I broadened my horizons, and I only have the Internet to thank, and of course, all the lovely people that I have gotten to know through the Internet!

Especially Johnny-sama for that matter. All the circulating media that fansubbers do actually provide free advertising from him as well as more revenue from the international fans.

I agree! Without those downloads, I would have never wanted to eagerly learn Japanese in university which sparked an interest in contributing back into the community by fansubbing. That in itself lead me to a paid research assistant position because of Arashi's influence!

YES! I would have never know you! (or spammed the many countless hours on the AnM threads)

Before getting into Arashi fandom, I never imagined ordering anything online! Before this, I was into the Taiwanese music industry, and although there were some limited edition cds and stuff like that that I wanted, it never occurred to me to actually order them online!

I myself had started attending Japanese classes a month before I got into fandom. Although these classes lasted for less than a year, by watching Arashi, I could relate to the class and learn better! my sensei even advised me against writing kanji instead of hiragana in her homework XP

Through Arashi, we united, people from different nations, and cultures! (world peace, anyone?)

I learned a lot of kanji as well from just watching all the Arashi variety shows and did build up quite a healthy vocabulary list because of them :3

Me neither, I never bought anything online until I started ordering concert DVDs from Arashi which lead to their singles and all their other beautiful merchandise.

That's one thing they're forgot was people do use these sites for other things other than trading files.
The thing that bugs me, if SO many people are being narrow minded on this whole thing though. They only just now found out about SOPA/PIPA and only now are freaking out about things, while in reality these things were around being talked about A LOT last year! Where was everyone then? Also this really isn't just about SOPA/PIPA. Anyone who watches any type of sports or USA movies online, got hit by a huge whip of stream sites that streamed Live Sports, PPV and Movies. Yes while the Government is now stepping into the issue, really this whole thing is being funded by those who care to much about their own pocket money. Like the sports and PPV issue. Many fans when interviewed said straight up they would love to go back to buying, but people just can't drop $30+ -$60+ plus tax on a sports events. And the price of movie tickets are SO bad, it's just easier to go ahead and download it before it hits theaters. Really there is no reason to redownload it (aka buying it) afterwords. Some do, most don't. Same with video games.

So what I guess I'm saying is, yes our the USA government has stepped up and became the evil face, but really they aren't the real bad guys out there. It's the greedy companies. Heck just like illgal music downloading. We the people gave into easying up downloading illigally. Dose it still happen and cost a lot of money? Yep. But really, the fact someone can now go download the 1 good song off a whole CD instead of buying the whole crappy thing, changed who things are. Now the big deal is with pricing.

Sorry for rambling on. It's just I really do hate when it takes hitting the brick wall before anyone starts to do anything. Hopefully the best will happen. Also I feel sorry for the foolish ones who think MF is safe. "They" aren't stupipd.

Ok ok...I'll stop. I have to finish my downloading. It's times liek this I wish my other HD hadn't brooke. Then I wouldn't have so many old files to redownload.

Really sorry for ranting.
corlee1289: Blue Butterflycorlee1289 on January 20th, 2012 04:18 am (UTC)
No! No! That's the beauty of free speech where we can freely say anything we want right?

I do agree with you on many levels. It's gotten to the point where I used to be able to watch a movie in theaters for 5.00$, but now it's gone up to 11.00$ (+ 3.00$ for 3D). Not only that, but it really isn't worth paying an album 30.00$ (plus tax) when all you're really interested in is just a song or two from the artist.

But yeah, those who think MF are just deluding themselves. If MU is truly gone, then it's only a matter of time before all the others are affected as well.
familytablesfamilytables on January 20th, 2012 04:34 am (UTC)
I just feel like I'm ranting on your comments, which I don't want to do. I mean that's what my LJ is for.

I know. Though I understand why a 3D or XD movie cost an arm and leg, the reasoning behind a normal moive costing such, dose not add up. I mean even with production cost, and the theater tossing in their fees, no ticket should be pushing $20. As for music I don't have a clue why their prices went up. Sound qualit? BS!

Yeah. The clock is ticking.

corlee1289: Winter themecorlee1289 on January 20th, 2012 05:15 am (UTC)
Mah~ If I didn't want to hear others opinions, I would have simply disabled the comments~

The cheapest movie theater is charging 11.00$ for the matinee special (day special), if you're going after 6PM, then it's a ridiculous 15.00$ (and if it's 3D, then you're looking it close to 20.00$)

It would be one thing if the quality of their music went up or if there were some cool new features to justify the prices, but unfortunately, they don't... Why? Simply because them adding more things would not earn them a very large profit margin. In any case, from a radio show that I heard, artists don't make a lot of money (well the Americans) on their CDs, rather they make more money on their concert tickets and concert goods.

The clock is indeed ticking...
familytablesfamilytables on January 20th, 2012 05:22 am (UTC)
True

Yeah, that's the prices here. I mean there are like $3 dollar movies, but you know they're very old and the theater is just trying to get house wives with the kids in there.

Yeah really. Yep very true. Most artist (I want put rappers in this since most own their own lables and it's a whole lot of other mess) only make maybe 2-5% of the amount they make off CDs is they're lucky enough to have signed a good deal. They can make up to 15-20% on anything to do with concert goods, and the conert itself can vary, but it's up near 40% Though they have been having lawsuits and hearings with ticketmaster and arena's over the amount of the shear out of the ticket sells those two should get. Can you believe ticketmaster thinks it should get 50% of the ticket sells?! ...Oh well it sucks to be a Japanese artist. They make even less.

corlee1289: ポポロ 2月2011年 二宮corlee1289 on January 20th, 2012 04:43 am (UTC)
The things for my fandom have been backed up and have been on my PC. Though at this point in time, I may need another hard drive to transfer everything since I am now too paranoid to delete any of the files.

But yeah, a few hours ago, I was downloading from MU perfectly fine and then this happened...

I sincerely hope that this fandom will be able to pull through this chaos~
nadzsanznadzsanz on January 20th, 2012 05:18 am (UTC)
that good to hear.

yeah.i hope that too.. everything will be back to normal and nothing cant stop us being in this fandom
